There are many reasons for having picnic and every reason absolutely is a good one. For us it was Friendship day…..2nd August 2009.
Summary:
Human beings are social creatures and have always valued the importance of friends in their lives. To celebrate this noble feeling it was deemed fit to have a day dedicated to friends and friendship. In 1935 American Govt had killed a person on 1st Saturday of Aug. The next day his friend committed suicide in his memory. Since then American Govt declared 1st Sunday of Aug as friendship day.
Accordingly, first Sunday of August was declared as a holiday in US in honor of friends by a Proclamation made by US Congress in 1935. Since then, World Friendship Day is being celebrated every year on the first Sunday in the month of August.
This beautiful idea of celebrating Friendship Day was joyfully accepted by several other countries across the world. And today, many countries including India, celebrate the first Sunday of August as Friendship Day every year. Celebrating Friendship Day in a traditional manner, people meet their friends and exchange e cards and flowers to honor their friends. Lot many social and cultural organization too celebrate the occasion and mark Friendship Day by hosting programs and get together.
In the same spirit I was delighted to hear about “Friendship day Picnic to Silent Hills” by “GB”
Being the 1st picnic with the GB group I had no idea what was in store for me and what to expect and what not to, however I showed up at the meeting point on the 2nd of August and waited there for the pick up and as there is a saying talk about the devil and the devil appears and on time I see a bus and people waving out for me. I entered the bus and sat close to one of my friend and there after the journey began for me.
Sunday’s wet weather didn’t dampen the spirits of people as many turned out for the GB picnic. The event brought people from all walks of life together. “It just fills my heart to see so many people together of different ages, races, just the diversity,”
As we reached the resort, the brisk morning air nibbled at my nose as the sun, just rising over the mountains, warmed my body. A wave of calmness engulfs you surrounded by lush green trees, beautifully landscaped gardens, manicured lawns and pathways. As it was raining the weather had become pleasant.
The Resort had a water park along with a huge swimming pool, water slides, group slides and rain dance. This picnic brought together old friends and new for a relaxing day of swimming, and conversing.
A special treat is always music and the DJ, delighted the picnic goers by playing all item numbers lol… People danced together, shared a meal together, and just enjoyed each other’s company. “One day a year we can see how easy it is to come out to appreciate and honor one another so we can carry it over into our daily lives,”
The picnic featured a great diversity and abundance of excellent food.
The picnic felt more like a feeling of family. Many opened their arms to people from all walk’s of life I think the best thing to do is to open your hearts and open your minds. Be happy and friendly with everyone you come in contact with. However, it would be nice to have more ice breakers and some tele games. It will allow people to know each other better and come together as one family.
The weekend went extremely well and a good time was had by all. Massive amounts of respect must be given to the handful of people who organized this picnic.
“This type of great event doesn’t happen without a lot of work, Hats off to GB & those who helped put this event together and everybody who came out here to make that day a reality.”
Seriously it didn’t regret making a decision to come for the picnic. All in all I had a good time as it was fun filled affair that is enjoyed by many.
Awaiting for the next trip.
