Riyad
Wadia, independent filmmaker–writer–gay activist who lived in New York
and Bombay, passed away on November 30, 2003. The openly gay filmmaker
broke new cinematic ground in 1996 with BomGay, a series of vignettes
exploring gay identity in contemporary India. His other films include the
documentaries A Mermaid Called Aida," about India's famous
transsexual Aida Banaji, and Fearless: The Hunterwali Story.

Celluloid Closet
- chronicles the way Hollywood movies have portrayed homosexuals for
the past 100 years and how these images, both positive and negative, have
helped shape America's attitudes toward gays. Directed by Rob Epstein (100 min)

I Think I Do -
well written gay comedy - Two college roommates meet five
years after graduation at their house mate's wedding. One of them is gay,
the other, is a hit with the ladies but with a secret of his own. (90 min)
3.
Life and Times of Harvey Milk -
a documentary chronicling the life and career of charismatic, openly gay
San Francisco city supervisor Harvey Milk, whose life was cut short by an
assassin's bullet. Also directed by Rob Epstein (88 min)
4.
BOMgAY
- by Riyad Wadia based on the poems by R. Raj Rao. Starring
Rahul Bose. (14 min)

DIRECTIONS:
From South Bombay - If you are coming from the Haji Ali side, at
Worli Naka go STRAIGHT on to G.S. Bhosale Marg This will take you towards
the BDD chawls and further down is the Mahindra Towers. (DON'T go LEFT on
the Anne Besant Road towards Poddar Hospital). Once you are on this road
you will come on to a busy congested market area. You will come to a tiny
Masjid. Take a RIGHT here. You will come to Shaman Automobiles - Fiat
Garage. Turn in. This is the entry gate # 5 of Sriram Mills for MIKANOS.
From North Bombay - If you are coming from the suburbs down Anne
Besant Road - go past the Passport Office and turn LEFT after Glaxo
towards Doordarshan. Take the 2nd turn to the RIGHT on to G.M. Bhosale
Marg. Go past the Mahindra Towers towards Worli Naka. Just before you hit
the Naka you will come to a Masjid on your LEFT. Turn LEFT here. You will
see Shaman Automobiles. This is the entry gate of Sriram Mills for MIKANOS.
Lower Parel Station - is the closest Western Railway Station. You
can cab it up from here or take one of the many buses - #44, #50, #166.
Get off at the Sriram Mills Stop. You can also take a cab from Mahalaxmi
Station.
NOTE :
- The films are excellent original copies on DVD & VHS.
- The films are NOT pornographic. Only good, clean gay
films.
- GB as a support group, has created this comfort
space/event for gays, many of whom may be "newbies" (those still coming
to terms with their sexuality and who have mustered courage to come for
such a meeting for the first time). So we request you to be sensitive to
the comfort levels of others attending this event and behave and dress
accordingly.
