FILMS to be SCREENED :
Soldier's Girl - 2003 / 1 hr 52 min / directed by Frank Pierson
The Showtime original movie SOLDIER'S GIRL tells the heartwrenching true story of Private Barry Winchell (Troy Garity, son of Jane Fonda and Tom Hayden), a 21-year-old soldier beaten to death in army barracks because of his love affair with a transgendered nightclub singer. The ostensibly heterosexual Winchell meets Calpernia Adams (Lee Pace) while out on the town with his infantry buddies and surprises even himself when he decides to date the vulnerable pre-op transsexual. But as the relationship blossoms, it infuriates Winchell's mentally unstable roommate Justin Fisher (Shawn Hatosy), who incites fellow soldier Calvin Glover (Philip Eddolls) to murder Winchell with a baseball bat. A scathing indictment of the codified machismo and homophobia that permeate military life, SOLDIER'S GIRL is also a sweet and tender story of a love that transcends boundaries.

1st Tea Break - 15 min ~~~
The Man I Love - 1997 / 87 min / directed by Stephane Giusti
/ French with EST
THE MAN I LOVE is a uniquely French but touchingly universal film about the bittersweet pleasures that accompany both coming out and falling in love. Martin (Marcial Di Fonzo Bo) is a young gay man who finds himself irresistibly drawn to the handsome Lucas (Jean-Michel Portal), a straight swimmer and diver less than thrilled with Martin's unwanted attentions. But as the two men embark on a tenuous friendship, they are both surprised by the stirring of new emotions that result in unexpected passion and possibly even true love. This sweet and tender love story brims with charming romanticism, warm flashes of humor, and a unique cast of characters that include a deaf drag queen who signs--rather than lip-synchs--his routines.
~~~ 2nd Tea Break - 30 min ~~~
Unconditional Love - 2002 / 2 hours, 2 minutes / directed by P.J. Hogan
Cast: Kathy Bates, Rupert Everett, Peter Sarsgaard, Lynn Redgrave, Dan Aykroyd
This charming romantic comedy follows Grace Beasley (Kathy Bates) as she finds herself embarking on a wild journey. After her husband (Dan Aykroyd) leaves her, Grace decides to be impulsive and live life the way she wants to. She hops on a plane to London in order to attend the funeral of her favorite singer, Victor Fox. When she gets there, she meets Victor's former lover, Dirk Simpson (Rupert Everett), who is determined to avenge Victor's death. Together, the unlikely duo begin their quest, as Grace gradually begins to understand what it means to live life on one's own terms.
PLEASE
BEAR WITH US
To
have people walking
in and out during screenings is a big nuisance.
Though
guys coming slightly late can be condoned, the bane of the festivals is
the constant traffic of guys running in and out to answer cell
phones, quite unconcerned with the disturbance
they are causing.
We request people to PLEASE SWITCH OFF their CELL phones during the
screenings. Anyone who walks out during the screening will not be allowed
inside, until the next break. Doors will be locked once the film begins.
NOTE :
- The films will are excellent original copies on DVD & VHS.
- The films are NOT pornographic. Only good, clean gay
films.
- GB as a support group, has created this comfort
space/event for gays, many of whom may be "newbies" (those still coming
to terms with their sexuality and who have mustered courage to come for
such a meeting for the first time). So we request you to be sensitive to
the comfort levels of others attending this event and behave and dress
accordingly.
