Spl. GB Meet - dialogue with a friendly psychiatrist

come for a friendly chat with a psychiatrist this Republic Day.

Date : Wednesday, 26th January 2005.

Time : 5:00PM - 6:00PM IST (GMT+05:30)

Venue : We meet as usual at Just Around The Corner (JATC). Directions

The Agenda : a dialogue with a gay-friendly psychiatrist.
Coming to terms with our sexuality has its own pain and joy.  It's quite comforting to find so many guys like us, yet there is constant fear of  being exposed, marriage pressure, old age, loneliness and bleak future. No wonder, most of us have bouts of depression, withdrawal symptoms etc.

We may be completely comfortable with our sexuality, but we are left with so  many unanswered questions: Why am I Gay? Why only me? Are my parents responsible? What about my future? Do I need to come out to my parents?  If yes, how do I come out?

There is a strong desire to discuss these issues.  May be with a family doctor or a shrink. But we are too scared to approach the family doctor for obvious reasons. And most of us cannot find the right psychiatrist. Moreover, the fear of meeting a quack and receiving aversion therapy puts brakes to our search for an unbiased psychiatrist.

But  now GB introduces you to a reputed physiatrist & sex consultant who runs his own nursing home in South Bombay. He is also an Hon. Psychiatrist at H. N. Hospital, D S. Kothari Hospital and K. B. Bhabha Hospital.

Be there even if you are very comfortable with yourself. It's always music to ears to hear  "Homosexuality is normal" - from a psychiatrist.

Note :
1. Ensure that you get to JATC before 6:00 pm - in case the evening carries over to another gay-friendly place close by.

2. GB as a support group, has created this comfort/safe space for gays, many of whom may be "newbies" (those still coming to terms with their sexuality and who have mustered courage to come for such a meeting for the first time). So we request you to be sensitive to the comfort levels of others attending the meeting and behave and dress accordingly.  Dressing in DRAG is therefore strictly discouraged.

3. To identify the group, look out for someone wearing a BLACK cap.
