Ram Guha recently had an interesting article on Lord Wavell in The Hindu. It was a straightforward portrait and appreciation of an often underestimated man - with a surprise at the end. Or it would have been a surprise if Guha hadn't stated it in such an equally straightforward way, not prevaricating or being embarassed about it.
